Mental Attitude: PTSD Increases Atrial Fibrillation Risk. An analysis of data concerning 988,090 military
veterans revealed that those with a history of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) had a 13% elevated risk for
developing atrial fibrillation—a condition characterized by an irregular heartbeat that can lead to several serious

Health Alert: There May Be “Microplastics” in Some Cups of Tea… Using a powerful electron microscope,
researchers observed that a single plastic teabag can release close to 12 billion microplastic particles and more than 3
billion nanoplastic particles into a cup of hot water. Dr. Kenneth Spaeth, chief of occupational and environmental
medicine at Northwell Health in Great Neck, New York writes, “[The study] raises the specter that human exposure
to microplastics is not just a result of the widespread contamination of the broader environment, but that our use of
plastics in consumer products is notably adding to our microplastics exposure.”

Diet: Depression and Diet… Among a group of 4,082 middle-aged and older Australian adults, researchers found
that consuming a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and fish was associated with a reduced risk for depression in women.
On the other hand, the research team observed that female participants who consumed a diet that frequently included
red meat and processed foods were more likely to report depressive symptoms.

Exercise: Exercise Prior to Breast Cancer Linked to Lower Risk of Heart Disease. Past research has shown that
women who survive breast cancer have an elevated risk for angina, coronary revascularization, peripheral artery
disease, or stroke. In a study involving 4,015 breast cancer patients, researchers found that those with a history of
exercise prior to their cancer diagnosis had a significantly reduced risk for such cardiovascular events.

Chiropractic: High School Volleyball Players and Back Pain. Questionnaires completed by 123 elite high school
male and female volleyball players revealed that nearly half (48%) had back pain. Interestingly, further analysis
showed that players who experienced an ankle injury in the previous year were more likely to report current back
